Love is in the Air

WSRA

The season of love is a great opportunity to explore a new place or take a romantic getaway with your special. Luckily, Valentine’s Day is on Friday this year, making it the perfect opportunity for a 3-day weekend! While a fancy dinner and chocolates are a nice gesture, uninterrupted time simply can’t be beat. If you’re ready to make this the most romantic Valentine’s Day yet, get started with our Top 5 Most Romantic Destinations recommendations!

New York City is first on our list. Whether you want to re-live your favorite romantic comedy or simply escape to the Big Apple, NYC is an excellent choice for a romantic getaway. You can find places to ice skate, do some sightseeing, catch a Broadway show, or check out one of the excellent couple’s spas in the city. One of the best reasons to visit NYC around Valentine’s Day is because this is one of the least expensive times to travel there. NYC hotels and flights are generally the cheapest in January and February, so you’ll have a few extra dollars to spend on that Broadway show or special dinner.

Up next, Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is warm, friendly, historic, and inviting. There are endless bed and breakfast spots to enjoy and the city is rich with history. Grab your walking shoes and stroll around the Battery, grab some breakfast at a great local coffee shop, and enjoy Rainbow Row, a line of colorful Colonial townhouses. Enjoy a harbor cruise or a romantic horse and carriage ride around historic Charleston before indulging in some of the best seafood you’ve ever had…you must try the She-Crab soup. The best bars and lounges in Charleston are on King Street between Spring St. and John St., so there for a nightcap before returning to your room.

Our next favorite romantic destination is Napa Valley, California. Again, this is a great time to visit because it is considered the off-season, meaning your trip may be a little less costly than normal. Make time for wine tastings, explore the Lighted Art Festival, and book an experience at the Calistoga Hot Springs and Mineral Pools. While winter can bring rain to this area of California, there’s still plenty to do. Quite a few wineries are located in caves that are sheltered from the weather, but you can also visit one of Napa’s famous food halls or explore one of their many museums.

If you’re looking to go big this Valentine’s Day and turn your long weekend into a week-long escape, Kaua’i is for you! Even though 80% of this island is inaccessible by car or foot, there’s plenty for you to do on Hawaii’s most ancient inhabitable island. Book a boat tour for a chance to see mother and newborn humpback whales that travel south during the winter, explore Waimea Canyon, or view the island from the sky on a helicopter tour. The island’s North Shore offers a dramatic coastline, but the surf can be very rough in the winter time. If you’re visiting in February, you’re advised to spend time on the South Shore in the town of Poipu where the beach access is easy and snorkeling is best.

Finally, there can’t be a romantic destination list without mentioning the Adirondacks! If you and your partner love the outdoors, Adirondack State Park should be at the top of your must-see bucket list. Depending on the level of adventure you’re seeking, you can choose to camp, glamp, stay in a cabin, or enjoy a beautiful resort. There are beautiful hiking trails, the opportunity for winter sports such as skiing, snowshoeing, etc., wineries and breweries, shopping, and museums. This part of the country is nature at its finest - an almost untouched view of what America looked like hundreds of years ago. If you’re looking for an opportunity to escape the busyness of your daily life and unplug from the constant noise to spend time with the person you love most, the Adirondacks are the answer.

Traveling with a loved one is a chance to get to know each other better, enhance your bond, and create special memories. There will be hiccups and challenges, but those are the things life is built on. This year, skip the “stuff” and celebrate Valentine’s Day by creating a memory you will both treasure for years to come…buy the tickets and make the plans!hear your thoughts and learn more about your travel experiences!
