Those planning a trip to the Fort Leonard Wood Region or considering visiting, should consider taking a tour of the Meramec River Wine Trail that winds its way through central Missouri. Wineries along this route offer tastings of the varied styles of wine, along with beautiful scenery of the Meramec River and the Ozark Highlands.

There are eight vineyards and wineries along this trail. They are:

Belmont Vineyards

Heinrichshaus Vineyards & Winery

Eagle’s Landing Winery/Just A Taste Restaurant

Meramec Vineyards & Winery

Peaceful Bend Vineyard

Red Moose Vineyard & Winery

St. James Winery

Three Squirrels Winery

Many of these wineries offer delicious snacks and food to accompany their wines, as well as special events throughout the year. If you take some friends along, be prepared to enjoy outdoor seating, yard games, and the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors in the Ozarks.

For those more seasoned wine enthusiasts, you can also contact the vineyards and wineries to schedule tours that will provide a history of the vineyard or winery, as well as more details about the types of grapes grown and their harvest process.

Tastings are a popular option at all of these wineries, but you should also be prepared to purchase bottles or cases of your favorite wine. If you aren’t driving home, you can also speak to each individual winery about shipping straight to your home.

One of the most popular options to visit the vineyards on this trail is to visit during one of their featured weekends. Throughout the year, specific weekends are identified, and you can purchase a $30 ticket which allows you to visit the wineries on the trail from noon – 5 p.m. on both days to sample specific wines and enjoy food pairings. You also get to keep your tasting glass as a souvenir!
