What's Cookin' in the Fort Leonard Wood Region

Are you headed to the Fort Leonard Wood Region soon for a military graduation? Celebrating this awesome accomplishment at a tasty restaurant with amazing food is a must…and we’re pretty sure your Soldier (who’s had his or her share of dining facility food) would agree.

We’ve compiled a short list of our favorite local restaurants that we’d recommend. We've left off the chain restaurants because there are quite a few and we wanted to focus on the locals that you might not be as familiar with. There are definitely many more, so leave us a comment below with your favorite recommendation!

Waynesville & St. Robert:
Nona’s Kitchen – great home cooking with daily lunch specials on the Waynesville Square
Hopper’s Pub – a local favorite with 66 beers on tap and a great food selection
The Hub – in the mood for some schnitzel und strudel? This is the place to find it!
Sweetwater BBQ – grab a taste of local Ozarks BBQ…you won’t be sorry
Z Loft Hotel Bar and Grill – fun restaurant offering nightly specials and lots of TVs if you need to catch a game
El Jimador – great Mexican food served quickly
Route 66 Diner – enjoy the best diner food and reminisce about what it must’ve been like to be one of the first to explore America on Route 66

Matt’s Steakhouse – you’ll find the best cuts of steak and incredible sides and drinks here
A Slice of Pie – yes, they only serve pie, but if you have pie, do you really need anything else?
Alex’s Pizza Palace – local favorite serving amazing pies and they serve a variety of Greek food
DiTrapani’s Italian Bistro – big selection of great Italian food and with nightly specials

Dowd’s Catfish & BBQ – don’t miss some good ol’ home cookin’ and some of Missouri’s best catfish
Bandana’s BBQ – ribs, BBQ chicken nachos, sweet corn, fried okra…can you say food coma?
DaVinci’s – great salads, fresh bread, and amazing Italian food
Elm Street Eatery – we love everything on their menu – great pie and shakes, lots of meals to choose from, and a great breakfast selection

The Fort Leonard Wood Region is also home to some great craft breweries for those over 21. Two of our favorites are the Piney River Brewery and Public House Brewing Company. If you have some extra time, check these places out and enjoy responsibly!

If you’d rather stay on post, head over to Daugherty Bowling Alley. Enjoy a few frames of bowling and some pretty good food. There’s also a fun arcade area for younger kids – a great hidden gem, especially if it’s raining!
